New gTLD Domain Registrations hit 2.5 Million

According  to theDomains.com The number of new gTLD domain name registrations topped the 2.5 million mark for the first time yesterday  as .NYC  awarded over 2,900 domain names in the land rush program which ended yesterday, blowing away all previously new gTLD launches in terms of domain names awarded in Sunrise and Landrush (or equivalent Early Access Programs) where registrants paid an extra fee to get early access to register domain names.

However the .NYC landrush number does not include any landrush domain  in which 2 or more people applied for the same name, as those domains are heading off to landrush auctions Read more from source
