Nominet has been reappointed by ICANN as an Emergency Back-End Registry Operator (EBERO) for new generic top-level domains (gTLDs). UK internet infrastructure company Nominet was first appointed as an EBERO operator in 2014. As well as the .UK domain, Nominet runs more than 70 top level domains.

Nominet currently operates the “.uk” gTLD, as well as around 70 other TLDs, including “.cymru” and “.wales”.

Russell Haworth, CEO of Nominet, commented: “Our role operating at the heart of the internet infrastructure and maintaining 100 percent uptime of the “.uk” namespace is testament to this continued recognition from ICANN that we are a safe pair of hands ready to step in should a registry fail.”

Eleanor Bradley, managing director of registry solutions at Nominet, added: “We take our role as a leading registry and critical national infrastructure seriously and are pleased to be able to share our expertise of over 20 years.”

Bradley continued: “Being the only EBERO provider to have been called upon to ensure continuity of the ‘.wed’ TLD back in December 2017, was a great opportunity to underline our suitability and contribute to the smooth running of the internet at large.”
