CentralNic Group plc to receive a bulk transfer of 679,840 domain names

CentralNic (AIM: CNIC), the internet platform business that derives subscription revenue from the worldwide sale of domain names and associated web services, announces that it has been selected by the internet regulator, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) for the bulk transfer of 679,840 domain names from a former registrar that is no longer accredited.

ICANN selected three CentralNic subsidiaries for the domain names following a full competitive application process. Such a process is the official procedure when a former registrar loses accreditation in order to ensure the end customers enjoy continuity of service. CentralNic is among the world’s top ten domain name registrars operating 13 retail and wholesale domain vendors including Key-Systems, Moniker, Instra, OnlyDomains, and BrandShelter. A number of criteria were taken into account in selecting CentralNic as the successful candidate, including the Company’s experience, history of compliance, stability, and overall reputation for professionalism.

The domain names will provide revenues to CentralNic as and when they are renewed by the end users at the end of their current subscription terms. They will be transferred to CentralNic at no cost and additional servicing costs are expected to be minimal as the new names can easily be accommodated on the Company’s highly scalable platform, which already supports over seven million domains.

Ben Crawford, CEO of CentralNic, commented: “We are delighted to have been transferred these domain names by ICANN. This was a competitive process and our selection is a huge endorsement of the quality of our scalable platform, our exemplary track record and excellent reputation in the industry. We hope to be able to announce further successes of this kind in future.”

Customers of the defunct registrar will be able to manage and renew their domains, as well as registering new domains, on the CentralNic Group retail website Moniker.com. This website will set up accounts for each customer and email them with their login details when the transfer process is complete.
